Does Dearly need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no password, no cloud. Dearly opens and just works.

Where are my memories stored?

On your iPhone, in the app's private storage. They are never uploaded to a server. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Can I move my memories to a new iPhone?

If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or encrypted Mac backup of your old iPhone, Dearly's data will come along with the rest of your apps. There is no in-app export at this time — let us know if you'd like one.

Why does Dearly ask for microphone and speech recognition permission?

The microphone permission lets you record. The speech recognition permission lets Apple's on-device Speech framework turn your voice into text. Both are required for the core experience. Dearly never streams your audio to a server.

Why does Dearly ask for photo library permission?

Only when you choose to add a cover photo to a memory. Dearly only reads the photos you explicitly select.

What devices does Dearly support?

iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Apple Intelligence features (smarter summaries and titles) require a device with Apple Intelligence support. Dearly works without them — you'll still get your transcript and a clean memory.

How do I delete a memory?

Open the memory, tap the menu (top-right), and choose Delete. To remove every memory, delete the Dearly app from your iPhone.

Is Dearly free?

Yes. Dearly is free, with no in-app purchases and no advertising. If we ever change that, you'll know up front.
